Community-minded fire service

Throughout the year it's not uncommon to see the citizens of Anchorage gather at the fire house for one of the many community events. Whether it's a Fourth of July picnic, complete with a parade where a manure spreader is the prize for the best decorated 'float' or a casual dance in the street, the fire house is always the center of the community.

Even when there's nothing in particular going on, it's not uncommon for folks just to stop by and chat. Kids especially love to come by and play on the trucks, which of course is okay at anytime.

Over the years we've found that the best way to keep the citizens of Anchorage safe is to help teach them to prevent fires, accidents and illnesses. With that in mind, we provide a number of services to help out the community.

From going out in the community and checking facilities for safety hazards and preparing pre-plans, to stopping by the a boy scout gathering to lecture on safety--we're always ready to help. If you would like to find out more about what we can offer you as a member of the community, please don't hesitate to contact our public education personnel. Or just drop by the station.

Fire Prevention

Smoke Detectors - There's no doubt that smoke detectors save lives. But they won't work if improperly installed or the batteries aren't functional. If you're unsure about the operation of your detectors, don't hesitate to call the station at 245-6755.

Home Fire Inspections - We're always willing to come to you house to perform a voluntary home safety inspection. This free service will help you identify possible safety hazards like improper use of extension cords and unsafe storage of chemicals, along with the testing of your smoke detectors.

Firehouse Visits - We love to have visitors stop by for a quick tour of the station and its apparatus. If you get a chance please feel free to stop by. We'll tell the kids about what we do and how they can keep safe. We'll also let them try on our protective fire gear (yes it is really heavy). Kids will also receive special fire prevention coloring books and their own Official Junior Firefighter helmet. If you have a large group to tour, please call ahead so we can make sure we can accommodate them. We can also stop by your meeting place with the apparatus. Just give us a call to make arrangements.

Medical

Health checks - While we aren't a substitute for an office visit to your physician, we're always glad to send one our paramedics to your house to check your blood pressure or blood glucose level. Just call the station at 245-6755 and ask to speak to the on-duty shift captain.

Training - We're always glad to send out members of our staff to train your group in first aid and preparedness. Again, just give us a call to schedule the time.
